Hidden Gems in Koh Samui You’ll Be Glad You Found

Koh Samui is often associated with beach clubs, bustling markets, and luxury resorts, but there's so much more to this island paradise if you know where to look. Beyond the busy tourist areas lie hidden beaches, peaceful viewpoints, and charming local spots that many travellers overlook. If you're searching for something a little more special, here are some of the hidden gems in Koh Samui you’ll be glad you found.

1. The Best Samui (Overlap Stone 2)

Perched above Lamai with sweeping views of the ocean, The Best Samui is home to “Overlap Stone 2” — a striking boulder that seems to float above the jungle. Access is by 4x4 uplift included in the 200 baht entry fee. Once at the top, you’ll find more than just the viewpoint. The site features sculptures facing the coastline, a peaceful restaurant, and a cocktail bar with some of the most impressive views on the island.

Good to know: It’s quiet, relaxed, and feels like a secret escape high above it all.

2. Coral Cove Beach

Hidden between Chaweng and Lamai, Coral Cove is a small bay that feels worlds away from the busy beaches nearby. Surrounded by giant granite boulders and crystal-clear water, this is hands-down the best spot for snorkelling without leaving the island. The coral starts close to shore, and you’ll often have the beach almost to yourself.

Perfect for: Snorkellers, couples, and anyone wanting a peaceful swim.

3. Wat Ratchathammaram (Red Temple)

Just south of Lamai lies one of the island’s most unique temples. Wat Ratchathammaram, often called the Red Temple, is made entirely of deep red sandstone and features incredibly detailed carvings. It’s rarely busy, making it an ideal place to take in the spiritual atmosphere and appreciate the artistry without distraction.

Worth noting: It’s easy to find but often missed by tourists rushing between attractions.

4. Five Islands Beach

Located on the untouched southwest coast of Samui, Five Islands Beach offers natural beauty and solitude. Named after the five small islands just offshore, this peaceful stretch of coastline is perfect for those looking to unwind. The area is home to traditional bird’s nest collectors, and the sunsets here are some of the best on the island.

Nearby: You’ll find a few small, local restaurants where you can enjoy fresh seafood with ocean views.

5. Treehouse Beach Bar

At the far end of Maenam Beach is a rustic, wooden hideaway known as Treehouse Bar. It’s the kind of place you only find by accident or word of mouth. With tables right in the sand, palm trees swaying overhead, and chilled reggae music on the breeze, it’s one of the most relaxing places on the island.

Best for: Long lunches, hammock naps, and sunset drinks away from the crowds.
